Huxley Golf helps create New World of Golf Performance Centre

The New Video Analysis Suite Featuring Huxley Golf Surfaces at World of Golf

Huxley Golf is celebrating its role in World of Golf’s successful launch of its new Performance Centre, recently opened by golf champion Bernard Gallacher OBE. The new facility in New Malden has brought together golf’s premier brands to create a superlative tuition and practice centre, designed to enable golfers to make tangible improvements to their game in the shortest possible time.

Director of Huxley Golf Paul Huxley said: “We’re delighted to have been involved in this project which is leading the way in golf tuition. The World of Golf Performance Centre is a fantastic showcase for the range of solutions that we provide here at Huxley Golf, and the requirements of the installations demonstrate how our product range works hand-in-hand with groundbreaking new technologies.”

Huxley Golf helped with the creation of two features, both incorporating high-tech coaching systems. The first installation, a video analysis suite, has been created around a floor mounted balance plate, which measures pupils’ stability and foot pressure to enable the coaching team to correct swing faults scientifically. Huxley Golf installed two 6ft (1.8m) x 6ft (1.8m) Premier Tee Turf 2 mats fringed by 172 sq.ft (16 sq.m) of Huxley Golf Leisure Turf to enhance this purpose built coaching zone. The tee turf mats provide ultimate flexibility to suit players’ preferences since the surface is hardwearing and suitable for both irons and woods and tee pegs can be placed anywhere on the surface. Combined, the two mats create an ample practice area for both left and right handed players.

The second Huxley Golf installation features a large indoor Modular Putting Green measuring 16ft (4.8m) x 4ft (1.2m). Complete with SAM PuttLab system, the facility’s futuristic computer forensics can detect putting stroke length, direction, acceleration and consistency with a high degree of accuracy so that coaching can be based on fact rather than opinion. The Huxley Golf green was installed with two holes at one end to accommodate SAM PuttLab at the other.

Duncan Woolger, Golf UK Top 100 Teacher, Advanced PGA Professional and Master Professional at World of Golf knew that the playing surface would play as important a role as the technology at the Performance Centre. He said: “Huxley Golf surfaces are renowned for being as close to real grass as you can get. This was important to us because there’s no point in deploying state-of-the-art technologies in ball and club tracking to get an accurate reflection of a player’s improvement points if the surface itself is unlike being out on a course – it would undermine the science.”

Grant Wright, Chief Executive of World of Golf is passionate about World of Golf’s new services. He commented: “Our philosophy is to be at the forefront of coaching excellence and to provide everything you need to become a better golfer. That’s why we choose to work with the best golf brands to create outstanding facilities and opportunities for fast and efficient learning. I’m delighted with the quality of our new practice features which I am confident will help thousands of golfers raise their game to new levels.”

Huxley Golf launches in China

Huxley Golf is delighted to announce its expansion in Asia with the launch of Huxley Golf China.

This strategic decision reflects a significant opportunity for business growth, reflecting increasing interest in the game of golf throughout China. Here, the number of golfers is rising by 7.5% each year and the country already plays host to three annual world tour events: the Volvo China Open, the BMW Asian Open and the WGC-HSBC Champions. Numerous world class golfers are emerging, including Liang Wen-Chong, the first Chinese golfer to win a top pro event, Shanshan Feng, who won the 2012 LPGA Championship, and Guan Tianlang, who at the age of 14, became the youngest player ever to make the cut at a men's major championship.

Keen golfer and successful businessman Song Tan has been named as Chief Executive Officer of Huxley Golf China and he will be ably assisted by his partner and Chief Administrator Chris Huang. The Company, which will be based in Shanghai, aims to reach both the commercial market with its bespoke designed and installed all-weather greens, tees, practice nets, pathways and lawns, as well as the domestic market with smaller and modular greens and portable practice nets. These will be of particular interest where land is at a premium since they will enable those who live in apartments without private gardens to practise at home. A 20x30ft (6x9m) outdoor green and an indoor putting green measuring 15x15ft (4.5x4.5m) have been installed near Shanghai for demonstration purposes.

Mr Tan said: “It’s extremely satisfying to see interest in golf here in China surging and making us one of the biggest emerging markets for the sport. As a golfer myself, I know that our hot and humid conditions sometimes make it difficult to get out on the course. This is why I firmly believe that Huxley Golf’s premium quality all-weather surfaces will be of huge interest to a wide range of customers, from golf courses, teaching establishments and hotels to people like me who like to practise at home. I find the surfaces extremely realistic with true ball roll and speed characteristics, yet no maintenance is necessary to keep them in excellent condition.”

Director of Huxley Golf, Paul Huxley, revealed that discussions had been taking place for some time before being able to make this announcement. “The timing had to be absolutely right and we knew we had to work with a successful and driven business partner to establish our first base in China,” he said. “It’s now quite clear that, with three tour events staged there, the World’s largest golfing complex established at Mission Hills Golf Club, and some really interesting new talent emerging on the global stage, that China, as in so many sports, will soon be a force to be reckoned with when it comes to golf. I am immensely proud that Huxley Golf will play a part in shaping that progress.”

Huxley Golf helps heroes with new golf practice facility

The official opening of the Huxley Golf practice area at Help for Heroes Recovery Centre, Chavasse VC House

Building on its relationship with charity Help for Heroes, and in conjunction with the fundraising organisation Rugby’s Golf Club, Huxley Golf has created a golf practice area at the Help for Heroes Recovery Centre, Chavasse VC House, in the garrison town of Colchester, Essex. One of four Recovery Centres established by the charity, Chavasse VC House provides service personnel and veterans who have suffered life changing injuries and illnesses with facilities and support to help them return to duty or transition to civilian life.

Steve Schollar, Chavasse VC House Centre Manager said: “Our aim is to inspire those who have been wounded, injured or become sick while serving our country and enable them to lead active, independent and fulfilling lives. I know our new facility will be of enormous benefit to the residents and day visitors to our Centre.”
The Huxley Golf installation features a six hole, 200 sq yards (170 sq m) putting green complete with large fringe surround, along with a double bay cage net for drives and long shots. Using Huxley Golf’s renowned durable all-weather surfaces means that the facility can be used year-round and will stand up to intensive use with little or no maintenance requirements.

Director of Huxley Golf Paul Huxley said: “This is the second Help for Heroes Recovery Centre that we have played a part in creating, following our work at Tedworth House in Wiltshire last year and we’re immensely proud to have been involved. I am confident that the new facility will prove to be helpful in terms of stimulating body and mind for British service men and women during their rehabilitation.” He continued: “I believe golf to be a fantastic sport to encourage because it works both physically and mentally. A full golf swing uses many muscle groups and a walk round the golf course encourages a healthy heart too, but this is just part of the benefit. The focus and concentration required to improve your game, along with the relaxation and social advantages that golf can bring are valuable. Indeed, completing a round of golf teaches someone to keep going, a good lesson in life as well as for the golf course.”

Chavasse VC House was officially opened by former Scotland International and BBC Rugby commentator Ian Robertson in July. The Centre was named after Captain Noel Chavasse, a British medical doctor and army officer who served in the First World War. One of only three people to be awarded the Victoria Cross and Bar (the equivalent of two VCs), he was praised for his “most conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty”. The Centre also incorporates Hope on the Horizon, the Help for Heroes garden from this year’s Chelsea Flower Show created by Matthew Keightley, which was awarded the prestigious BBC RHS Chelsea Flower Show People's Choice Award 2014.

Huxley Golf chosen for University of Sporting Excellence

Students under the watchful eye of High Performance Coach Dean Robertson at the new Huxley Golf short game practice area at the University of Stirling

Huxley Golf has designed and installed a new short game practice area at ‘Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence’, the world renowned University of Stirling. The R&A supported University wished to upgrade its specialist golf practice facilities to promote the best possible training procedures and create a realistic playing experience year-round for the budding champions of the future.

The new oval shaped Huxley Golf putting and chipping green is large, measuring 60ft (18.2m) long by 37ft (11. 2m) wide and it echoes the undulations of the natural environment. The putting area was finished with an attractive and robust Huxley Golf Premier Leisure Turf fringe which offers excellent chipping properties.

High Performance Coach and former Italian Open Champion Dean Robertson commented: “I wanted to create a tournament quality realistic all-weather green that would mirror ball roll and speed to help our students really work on their putting and chipping techniques. It was also important that our new short game practice area was effectively designed, not only to provide a challenge for our students, but also to be sympathetic to our wonderful natural environment. Huxley Golf’s team expertly guided us through the process from initial consultation through to installation and we’re extremely pleased with the result.”

The University has nurtured and played host to some of the best names in the game. Its hall of fame includes British Open winner and undoubtedly the best female Scottish golfer of her generation, Catriona Matthew, and European Tour Golfer Richie Ramsay. Its world class training facilities also include a nine-hole par-3 parkland golf course, 280-yard driving range, video analysis teaching room and state-of-the-art sports science laboratories. The campus is regarded as one of the most beautiful in the world, with views of a large loch and an historic castle, so the new facility had to be in keeping with the stunning aesthetics of its surroundings as well as being of the utmost quality.

Director of Huxley Golf Paul Huxley said: “We were delighted to be asked by the University of Stirling to help them with this project. It’s extremely rewarding to think that the green that we helped create will play a small part in coaching tomorrow’s successful golf champions.”

Huxley Golf preferred supplier for world’s first Nike performance fitting centre

Rory McIlroy launches the first Nike Performance Fitting Centre at Archerfield Links, created using Huxley Golf all-weather golf surfaces

Huxley Golf is proud to announce its association with the World’s first Nike Performance Fitting Centre at Archerfield Links. The ground-breaking facility was officially launched on 7th July 2014 by Rory McIlroy and features a range of Huxley Golf’s premier all-weather surfaces throughout.

The first of its kind, the new facility enables golfers to experience the very best in golf club, ball, footwear and apparel fitting – the kind of experience usually accessed only by Golf Pros. A coaching team comprising Ryder Cup player Andrew Coltart, leading European Tour coach Gary Nicol and PGA Professional Alistair Brown are also on hand to offer a range of tuition opportunities. The aim is to help golfers regardless of ability, experience or handicap to maximize their potential with the ultimate custom-fitting experience using state of the art technologies.

The Nike Performance Fitting Centre features a number of areas to test all aspects of performance. There are three main fitting bays which feature innovative 9ft (2.74m) circular tees. Working with Huxley Golf’s Premier Tee Turf, the circular tees can accept a tee peg anywhere on the surface and it plays exactly like natural grass with superb ball striking characteristics. What’s more the circular design enables the tee to be rotated, breaking up any straight lines to enable the golfer to aim in different directions as well as spreading wear and tear on this already exceptionally durable surface.

There are also four smaller bays which house 4ft11” (1.5m) circular tees using Premier Tee Turf with Huxley Golf Premier Leisure Turf 20 surrounds, an open area measuring 6ft (1.8m) wide x 60ft (18.2m) long featuring Huxley Golf Premier Leisure Turf and a large indoor putting green for technical analysis using Huxley Golf Nylon Indoor Green Turf measuring 12ft (3.6m) x 22ft (6.7m).

Tom Younger, who was responsible for managing the project at Archerfield Links, knew who to go to deliver this exciting new facility. He said: “The project team set the bar very high to meet ours and Nike’s exacting standards to create this new service, which, if successful, could become a template for similar centres around the World. We were absolutely focused on making sure that aesthetics were matched by quality so I pinpointed the reputable suppliers that I wanted to work with to deliver the vision. When it came to the surfaces underfoot, I went straight to Huxley Golf because I knew they would come up with the goods.”

Director of Huxley Golf Paul Huxley said: “We were thrilled to be asked to be involved with this amazing new venture. It showcases the best of British golf from the incredible venue and its hugely talented staff to the industry leading Nike equipment and technologies to our own world-class golfing surfaces. It’s particularly exciting that this facility has been designed for golfers everywhere and I certainly hope that many are able to experience it.”
